Mezzanine - Massive Attack - Mezzanine (CD, Album)

Massive Attack at their best. Massive Attack are one of my favourite groups and this IMO is their best album and sits at the top of my top ten albums of all time. I have wanted this on vinyl for a long time and have struggled to get a copy for a few years now. This is good quality and plays brilliantly. It was expensive for a double album and I would not normally pay this price but now I have it I feel it was worth it. This will be played and played. I'd never really been a Massive Attack fan before I bought this album; I've long liked "Angel" and started listening to "Dissolved Girl" after watching the Matrix again a while back.

Buying this album for just those two songs turned out to be worth it. I can't really fault it at all, although at the same time it isn't my normal musical tastes. To me, it feels a bit more laid back than most albums, with a hint of dark undertones and some excellent vocals. May have to consider some more of Massive Attack after this album. Essential trip-hop from the pioneers of the Genre!

Mezzanine is an album full of Dark, chill-out tunes that will transport you to another level! I absolutely Love this album and it features some of the bands best tracks including Teardrop, Inertia creeps, Risingson and Angel! Great stuff. Massive album. See all reviews. The band was falling apart as you were making the album. Without that tension, would the album have been as durable? The tension on that record was inevitable because I was determined to change the fabric of the band. I was forcing completely new ideas into the studio. I felt that this time around, it was also relevant to mine from our punk history and new wave history and to force these different cultural points into the studio.

I fell like listening to some Mezzanine. And i'd just keep coming back for more. And its not like i went 'omg this is an awesome album' - i just kept coming back to it. Though I still think it's awesome, if a little repetitive.

Also, the review was pretty good. A little repetitive at times though no, I'm not joking. The atmosphere of this album rules so much, but I don't think it's better than Endtroducing. That being said, they're completely different albums. Not sure what to rate it, sometimes I love it and sometimes it's kind of meh. Very moody album.

Massive Attack Mezzanine 3. Review Summary: Mezzanine's got itself some fine moments, but a lack of variation and some uninspired vocal performances makes it tough to listen to as a whole. Those lyrics don't help much either. Rank: 6 for With Massive Attack's third album Mezzanine , the cover asks for it. Set upon a white canvas, a hunk of black sludge stains the purity, thus creating something that looks futuristic and dark.

That's certainly the case for the album that lay behind this work of modern art. The project was in collaboration with TurboBeads Labs in Switzerland; the digital audio of the album was stored in the form of genetic information.

The audio was then compressed using Opus , coded in DNA molecules—with , short DNA strands containing all the data—and then poured into 5, tiny glass beads.

The album was remastered and reissued for its 20th anniversary. The 2CD anniversary edition was released on 23 August , and comes with a bonus disc of previously unreleased dub mixes by the Mad Professor, which were originally intended to be released on a Mezzanine remix album. A triple-LP vinyl version was also slated to be released; initially delayed from its proposed release date, the 3LP version was eventually canceled altogether.

The Mad Professor remixes include "Metal Banshee" an unreleased dub version of "Superpredators", which was a reworked cover of " Metal Postcard " originally by Siouxsie and the Banshees , and "Wire", a track recorded for the soundtrack to the film Welcome to Sarajevo.

Mezzanine was a pretty sketchy album in terms of the way we worked, because the band, as reported a lot at that time, were not getting on. So I'd be in the studio working with one of the members and someone else would come in, then the person I had been working with would leave and I'd have to change the track I was working on because they didn't want to work on that track, they wanted to work on something different.

Sometimes I'd be working on perhaps four different tracks in one day, which was a pretty messy way to work. Bob Hilliard Mort Garson. Del Naja Marshall Vowles Fraser.

Did it make them curious or really think about war, data, control, feedback loops, political idealism and the rest?

The short answer, from watching the audience shush each other and vox-popping fans afterwards, is yes. One woman, wearing red lipstick and bovver boots, says she is overwhelmed.

He grins. The way you make people look again is by finding a different sort of image. The two, who first worked together on a one-off commission for Manchester international festival in , make an outwardly unlikely pairing.

Del Naja retains a resolutely boyish energy and is dressed in black, off-duty streetwear; Curtis, just landed from London, is in a jacket and crisp white shirt. I ask how they considered some of the more sensitive, emotional material shown — a dead body, grieving relatives — and Curtis becomes exasperated. Rant over.

Increasingly ignored amidst the exploding trip-hop scene, Massive Attack finally returned in with Mezzanine, a record immediately announcing not only that the group was back, but that they'd recorded a set of songs just as singular and revelatory as on their debut, almost a decade back.
